Dr. Sutin is Professor of Behavioral Sciences and Social Medicine at the Florida State University College of Medicine. Broadly, her research focuses on how psychological and social factors contribute to health and well-being across the lifespan. Her work has been instrumental to understanding the biological consequences of individual differences in psychological functioning and how these consequences are mechanisms between psychological factors and long-term health outcomes. Dr. Sutin has also led ground-breaking research into the health benefits of purpose in life on cognitive outcomes across adulthood and how purpose helps support cognitive function from time spans that range from moments to decades. She has published more than 350 peer-reviewed articles, which are also reported on regularly in media outlets, including the New York Times, CNN, and NPR. Her research has been supported continuously for over 10 years by the National Institutes of Health, and she has been awarded Fellow Status by the Association for Psychological Science, the Society for Personality and Social Psychology, and the Gerontological Society of America.
