Azra Bihorac, M.D., M.S., is the Senior Associate Dean for Research at the University of Florida College of Medicine, where she holds the R. Glenn Davis Professorship in Medicine, Surgery, Anesthesiology, and Biomedical Engineering. She serves as director of both the Precision and Intelligent Systems in Medicine Research Partnership (PRISMAP) and the Intelligent Clinical Care Center (IC³), a multidisciplinary hub for advancing real-world applications of medical artificial intelligence (AI) in research, education, and patient care.

Dr. Bihorac’s professional journey spans continents—from her formative years as a medical student at the University of Sarajevo in Bosnia and Herzegovina, through the beginning of her clinical training in Istanbul, Turkey, and finally to clinical training, research, and her academic home at the University of Florida. Dr. Bihorac is an outspoken advocate for science and medicine, serving as both a holistic mentor and a catalyst for new ideas. She has mentored more than 100 undergraduate students, graduate trainees, postdoctoral fellows, and junior faculty around the world.

A visionary leader in biomedical artificial intelligence, Dr. Bihorac is internationally recognized for her contributions to clinical informatics and translational research in nephrology and acute care medicine. She is a pioneering physician-scientist whose work blends AI, medicine, and innovation. Her research focuses on deploying ambient, immersive, and human-centered AI technologies to optimize and personalize the diagnosis, monitoring, and treatment of acutely ill patients. Since 2010, she has maintained continuous funding from the National Institutes of Health and currently co-leads national initiatives to develop a roadmap for integrating AI in clinical care. Dr. Bihorac has authored more than 290 peer-reviewed publications and multiple textbooks. Her mission is clear: to create intelligent, human-centered healthcare where innovation, technology, and excellence are aligned to deliver optimal quality and experience for every patient, caregiver, and healthcare provider.
