Profile

Theo Siegrist received his Diploma in Physics (Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule, ETH, Zürich; 1979) and his Dr. Sc. nat in Condensed Matter Physics (ETH Zürich; 1982). He is currently Professor in Chemical and Biomedical Engineering at the FAMU-FSU College of Engineering, Florida State University (2008) and he is affiliated with the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory. His research expertise is in Materials Science and Materials Chemistry. Prior to joining the FAMU-FSU College of Engineering, he spent over twenty years at Bell Laboratories under AT&T, Lucent, and Alcatel-Lucent. At Bell Laboratories, he investigated high Tc superconductors, organic semiconductors, intermetallic phases, microwave materials, to mention just a few. He has published over 300 papers in peer reviewed journals. He is a founding member of the newly formed Materials Science and Engineering Department at the FAMU-FSU College of Engineering (2024). He became a Fellow of the American Physical Society (2006) for his work on cuprate superconductors. He investigated phase change materials for universal memory devices as the recipient of a Humboldt Research Award in 2008. He is also a member of the recently established Center for Rare Earths, Critical Minerals, and Industrial Byproducts located at the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory
