Nicholas J. Garber is a University Distinguished Professor of the University of Central Florida, and the Henry L. Kinnier Professor Emeritus of Civil Engineering at the University of Virginia and was chair of the Department. He received the degree of Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of London and the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from Carnegie-Mellon University. His research is in the areas of Traffic Operations and Highway Safety. He was the principal investigator for many sponsored research projects and authored over 150 refereed publications and reports. He also co-authored two textbooks. He was a member of the Executive Committee of the Transportation Research Board (TRB) and chaired several of its committees. Dr. Garber served as a member of other national committees of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and The Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE), including the Editorial Board of the ASCE Journal of Transportation Engineering. He is the recipient of many awards from TRB, ITE, ASCE and the S. S. Steinberg Outstanding Educator Award from the American Roads and Transportation Builders Association. Dr. Garber is a member of the National Academy of Engineering, a Distinguished Member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, a Fellow of the Institute of Transportation Engineers, and a Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers of the United Kingdom.
